Song of Inspiration With Deniece Williams

Music Speaks When Words Fail

Appreciate our freedom, learn from our past, and build a better future. ~ A.M.

On Juneteenth I can't help but listen to song Black Butterfly a few times. This song is inspirational and instrumental in teaching the younger generation about struggles of those that came before. I can recall recitals from my youth where there would be someone singing or dancing to the song.

"Black Butterfly" is a 1984 song by American singer-songwriter Deniece Williams. It was released in 1984 for Columbia Records. The song was written by a well-established songwriting duo Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann. The song comes from her 1984 album Let's Hear it for the Boy.

My favorite part of the song is:

“Black Butterfly, sailed across the waters
tell your sons and daughters
what the struggle brings”
