The Importance of Looking the Part

Living in Style

Every media outlet is still all a buzz regarding First Lady, Michelle Obama's inaugural fashion choices.  CBS News | Inauguration Day 2013: First lady Michelle Obama's fashion choices will give you a complete run down.  Everyone has a opinion about her design choices, her new hair cut, accessories you name it.  I even saw a entertainment report lastnight with statistics.  In depth coverage to say the least.

There is enough fashion coverage blanketing the web to keep you occupied for weeks to come.  What I would like to discuss with you today is not so much the First Lady's fashion, but the relevance for all of us to look the part in life.  Part of living an illuminated life is knowing the proper attire for every occasion, and knowing how to accentuate your best.  This is the reason I have made LIVING IN STYLE a daily segment on the blog.  I am, by no means an expert, but I will share with you leading industry knowledge for bringing forth your best style.  I am an ordinary person on a budget just like you, but I am always seeking ways to look my personal best.

I know we have all heard the saying, "don't judge a book by its cover", but in reality we live in a world that basis its initial judgement about you on your appearance.  God doesn't focus on our outward appearance. It is what's on the inside that matters most to Him. The Bible tells us that God's focus is on developing our inner beauty so that it can be reflected in everything we do and what we are.  Therefore, first and foremost your appearance should be a reflection of who and what you aim to become.

I am reminded of a story my husband told me once about a janitor at his office building.  He bragged about how the janitor would come to work dressed daily in nice Dockers and Polo shirts.  He was often mistaken for a member of the office staff.  Yes, this man was a janitor at the time but his goal wasn't to remain as a janitor.  He had two sons that he was working to put through college, and he was working towards a better position for himself.  Eventually, this astute janitor gained the attention of upper management and was given a promotion.  I am sure his appearance wasn't the only deciding factor, but it definetly didn't hinder him in any way.

Your appearance should be an asset and not a hinderance, and should reflect the positive goals you have set for yourself.  I hope you find the LIVING IN STYLE segment of the blog helpful, and that it will become more of an interactive exchange of knowledge.  Remember sharing is caring.
