WALKING THE ILLUMINATED PATH | Conquering Fear

Want To Step Outside Your Comfort Zone? Have a child

I am of the belief that our children raise and grow us every day.  Sure it can be the other way around, but if you are honest with yourself you can come up with an endless list of the ways you have grown since becoming a parent.
This weekend my daughter negotiated a pet hamster. One of my biggest fears is rodents, second only to snakes.  So to willfully bring one into my home was a HUGE step for me.  My daughter came to us prepared to pay for this pet from her own savings, and she was willing to sign the pet contract that I provided (in other words) she was serious about this.  After a litany of questions and long discussion about responsibility we agreed to let her get the hamster.
I knew this would be a personal journey for me as well; the ride home from the pet store alone gave me anxiety.  I believe that by allowing my children to see me face my fear in such a real way is a life lesson that was sure to come in handy later on when they are faced with conquering their own fears.  We can’t coach our children into stepping outside their comfort zone if we are not willing to do it ourselves.
As begin this journey with “Try” (yes, that’s the hamster’s name), I will be the one trying to remain mindful of the lessons that are for me.  Being a parent brings the bible to life, and reveals God’s love for us.  In the living word it states that children are a gift.  I am grateful for my children more and more each day.
I shared my story, to help you the next time you find that your little ones are taking you outside of your comfort zone. May you look at your children with gratitude for being little vessels teaching us large lessons.

Until next time...Shine Light
