Tech News | Facebook to Buy Waze...Why?

Technology

What is Waze?

According to their website "Waze is the world's fastest-growing community-based traffic and navigation app. Join other drivers in your area who share real-time traffic and road info, saving everyone time and gas money on their daily commute."

Why the Interest from Facebook?

Melissa Tolentino of Silicon Angle shared three reasons why she thought Facebook would benefit from the purchase.

  1. A Stronger Foothold on Social Media
  2. Locate People
  3. Mapping Tool for Facebook Users

How Does it Work?

Jenna Hatfield of Stop, Drop, and Blog shares her experience with Waze.

"The social aspect of Waze maps saved my family time and frustration in two specific instances -- both in ways that neither Google or Apple have (yet) offered." excerpts from Why Would Facebook Want to Buy Waze?

Personally, I have never used to Waze maps. To speak honestly, I am not sure if I will. The acquistion does appear to be a good business move for Facebook. Moves such as this tend to make many uneasy, but I feel it is just a natural course of action, a next step in the mass media era.
