With This Ring I Do Wed...

Marriage

I was out shopping recently, and the clerk behind the counter complimented me on my wedding ring.  She stated it was similar to hers, and that she doesn't see the style often. Wedding rings are customary in marriages, but have you ever wondered where did the tradition begin?

“The history of the wedding ring is an extensive one going back 4000 years to the times of Ancient Egypt.” ~ According To Hankering For History

Living Through The Lens | Rick Berk a photographer based in New York pays special attention to the shot of the wedding rings for his clients.  Each photograph captures something that is exclusive to the bride and groom.

Akinee's Musings

Words become my therapy when I can't make sense of the world around me.  I wrote this piece back in 2011 when Kim Kardashian was making headlines for a 72 day marriage (Should we call it that?).
With This Ring I Thee Wed
By Akinee Maclin©
Just sitting here twisting my wedding ring on my finger, and I am reminded that in a marriage sometimes you spin round and round but it is chase that makes you alive.
I try to pull my ring off, but it doesn’t bulge because just like my mate is sized just for me.  So I grease and pull and I am successful in removing my ring, but my skin reminds me that my ring was here and that is where it should be hence we carry on.
Then I glance at the stone and not one blemish because diamonds have been refined by the fire.  So like them we must endure. And I know we will because like the adage about diamonds you are my best friend.
I twist again and I am reminded that like the endless circle we are unbreakable.  So then I count each stone, which reminds me to count up the good times and forget the wrongs.
On your wedding day, love is exciting and new.  Your ring is a symbol that you have found love at last.  Then as the years wan on that same ring will become of reminder of a promise you made to God from the two of you.
Know that as I twist my ring I am thinking of you.
