Lake Skinner Beautiful and Tranquil

SoCal Living

Feel Good Friday

"Two roads diverged in a wood and I - I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference."~ Robert Frost

Sometimes the psyche needs a change of scenery and pace. We have to slow down take in the colors and sounds of life. No better way to do that than spending time in nature. The trees become our canopy, the birds our music, and the wind our refreshment. Take one hour of the 24 allotted just for you. Tune into the majesty of each day. Within we find distinct blessings never to be revealed again.

Lake Skinner

Today, I ventured for nature walk at the tranquil Lake Skinner.

Created in 1973, Lake Skinner has 1400 surface acres of water and is operated by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. Supplied by the Colorado River through the Colorado River Aqueduct and the State Water Project, the lake feeds the Robert A. Skinner filtration plant and, in turn, supplies water to many residents of Southern California. Source: Riverside County Parks

The grounds of Lake Skinner are also home to the historic Alamos School built in 1898 and moved to Lake Skinner in 1977 as part of a project designed to showcase early rural California life. Money for that project fell through and the schoolhouse now sits empty. Sad I know. However, if you are in the area you can arrange a visit to venture inside the charming historical building. A reunion is planned for April 18th 2015 . Former students are expected to attend the reunion. You can meet some of the surviving members that attended the school during the 20th century.

If you are ever in the Southern California visiting Temecula Valley I would highly recommend a daytrip to the beautiful and tranquil grounds of Lake Skinner.
