Women’s History Month 2015

Causes and Awareness

Weaving The Stories of Women’s Lives

March is National Women’s History Month. Every year the National Women’s History Project selects a unifying theme to be shared with all who want to promote women’s history. This year’s theme presents the opportunity to weave women’s stories – individually and collectively – into the essential fabric of our nation’s history. Read More | National Women’s History Project

I wrote a poem entitled “Tapestry” about five month ago and it’s fitting for this year’s theme.

Tapestry
Life is but a tapestry
Each experience distinctively threaded together to create a masterpiece
The array of colour beautifully canvased
Intrinsically, displayed
Earth our loom, our purpose interlocked
Every person we meet are wefts adding character to our design
Weaving through the sands of time
A.M.

We celebrate women’s history month to encourage and inspire the next generation of women to write their stories. In thinking of this year’s theme I asked myself a question. If I could invite four women (past or present) to tea today to share their stories, who would I want to invite and why?

The four ladies I chose represent a blend wisdom, grace, courage, and intelligence. The wisdom Maya Angelou has inspired and continues to inspire legions women every day. Legendary Phylicia Rashad exhibits for our current generation exactly what is means to be a woman of grace. Lisa Ling is one of the best present day storytellers. Often times putting her life on the line to bring today’s stories to light. Finally, Shirley Chisholm, an American educator and politician, someone I would have loved to have meet. I respect her activist spirit and way she championed education.

If you could sit down with four women past or present, who would you invite? And Why?
