Light Over Darkness
Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door
of my lips! ~ Psalm 141:3
Silence
Silence has a role in effective communication. As the old saying goes, “God gave us two ears
and one mouth for reason”.
"Not all silences are the same. Silence is a form of communicating, and different silences have different meanings. In order to get the conversation going again, you have to discern the subtext – the message & meaning hidden in the silence."
Excerpt from Dharma Consulting, The 8 Types of Silence: How to Improve Communication when People aren’t Talking
7 Truths About Silence
- When silence replaces the truth it becomes a lie.
- When silent in place of action; it is inaction.
- When silence is given before speaking it becomes effective communication.
- A reflective silence is wisdom.
- Silence applies pressure, and if prolonged can be rude.
- Revered silence is profound.
- Silence while listening is golden.
Using Silence
Often times it is words that get people in trouble. Learning
how to use silence is life skill worth practicing. Silence is a great source of
strength. Use silence in your life to become more aware of your spirit. Never use silence in place of injustice. I
once heard, “It is in the womb of silence that we can grow ideas for the best
course of action to take.”

Tip! Take 5-10 minutes minimum a day to sit in silence. During conversations with others don’t over talk a person, inject polite pauses in the conversation.
