If you are communicating digitally chances are you have seen an emoji.  An emoji is a small digital image or icon used to express an idea, emotion, etc., in electronic communication.


Who Invented The Emoji?

Well the President Obama, said we can thank Japan for that.

Emoji were created in the late 1990s by NTT DoCoMo, the Japanese communications firm. The name is a contraction of the words e and moji, which roughly translates to pictograph. Read more via The Verge, How emoji conquered the world

Instagram announced this week that is will now allow users to search based on emoji. According to Business Insider, Instagram is banning users from searching one specific emoji hashtag because they're afraid of what people may find.


Condensed Communication

Pictographs is a form of primitive writing.  Many think that increased usage of emoji and internet slang is taking human communication backwards instead of forward.  Others think that symbolism is a form of casual communication and shouldn’t be used the workplace. While others believe that emoji, text, and 140 characters are in fact making people communicate more effectively and precise. I think it’s too soon to tell.
