Here in Southern California we are bracing for a heat wave. 

 
Dangerous, record-breaking heat is forecast to bake much of the West starting Friday and lasting at least into next week, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures could near 130 degrees in some spots in the desert Southwest, where the worst of the heat is forecast.The weather service has issued "extreme heat warnings" across parts of Arizona, California and Nevada, which means that "temperatures are forecast to reach dangerous levels that will stress the body if precautions are not taken," according to a weather service bulletin. Tools You Can Use

Make use of a Cooling Center you.

  • People can get up-to date information on the Cooling Center nearest their home by simply calling 2-1-1. There is no charge for this service. United Way 211 can provide information on locations, hours of operations and any special considerations for these locations.
  • United Way 2-1-1 works with organizations and local governments to have the most complete and up-to-date listing of cooling centers available.  
  • Cooling centers are located at libraries, community centers, churches, senior centers and other facilities throughout the Metro area.
  • The cooling centers are open to the public free of charge as a community service.
  • Persons without AC should go to a cooling center to protect their health.
